Patched HOMELAND was made as part of an investigation of the window system in an housing project in Sderot. Sderot is the most threatened city in Israel by rockets fired from the Gaza strip. A calculation of the fire angles was made using maps and the building orientation. The investigation showed that the optimal defense angle for the façade is 34 degrees from it. Structural defense system, made from 25 mm steel boards and light floor extensions were planned. The system is installed over the Kitchen windows in all of the apartment. It increases the light penetrate to the space while being a defensed structure who provides shelter from the rockets. Horizontal connectors were placed at specific height for various indoor functions of the kitchen – sitting places, counters and light shelves. The outdoor massive defense system becomes part of the kitchen indoors.
This Project suggest a new method for "defending the south", pre-thinking about architecture in extreme safty conditions to create a new architectural urban texture.
